~ About Us~

Amore Roses sources and imports rose cuttings from around the world. Cuttings are rooted or budded and grown in state of the art quarantine facilities. Once released, they are trialed in our no spray test gardens to determine performance in New Zealand conditions. When in full bloom the trial/display gardens are a sight to behold.

Amore Roses® specialise in Bambina Roses® sourced from international breeders. The plants are healthy and robust with polished, disease resistant foliage and present a stunning array of colourful blooms throughout summer. New Zealand's desire to ensure that our native plants and trees, agricultural and horticultural crops are not threatened, has meant it has been difficult to import plant material resulting in no new offerings in the way of smaller roses in New Zealand for many years, until now.

We love our little Bambina Roses® - you will too!

Our Rose Test Gardens

The roses in our test gardens are completely new to NZ, amore roses are the only rose nursery with these varieties. Your input is extremely valuable to us because your opinions help us to decide what varieties will be considered for marketing. There are some with flowers that we are not sure appeal, some we have had in the trial beds for quite a while and just couldn’t decide whether to market them or not. If your assessments gave these rose varieties the “thumbs up”, then certainly we will consider selling them.

If you wonder why a rose you particularly liked doesn’t ever get marketed, well it could be that it had some other problem. This is why we have the roses under test, to see how they will grow in New Zealand conditions - if they will grow too large for the average smaller garden, if they are susceptible to disease (who wants to spray anyway? Not us), if the flowers don’t open properly in our climate. We are assessing the roses all summer long. Some of these varieties have their ups and downs during the season, getting a touch of disease, or with awkward growth. In the end we have to decide what is to stay for eventual marketing and alas what is to go to free up a rose bed for the new releases from quarantine.

Some lovely varieties did not have any flowers for the Open Day and this is taken into consideration by us too, maybe next year they will be in flower so they can have their turn being properly assessed. And every year whilst some varieties have been removed there are brand new varieties being added for assessment. That is what is so exciting about these trial gardens, there will always be changes among the favourite “keepers” that are on the market already.

Do come to our Open Day during the Spring flush to enjoy the roses and have your say.
